Buy your Michigan Pre-Licensing »Prequalification
To start:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be of good moral character.

Complete 40 hours of approved Pre-Licensing education.

Pass the course final exam.
After you complete all the course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, there is a course final exam. The minimum passing score is 70%.

Select a sponsoring broker.
To be licensed, you must first be associated with a current and active Michigan sponsoring broker. It's important to find the right broker to work with since this person will serve as your mentor as you start your new career in real estate.
Here are some questions to consider during your search:
- What is their reputation, both locally and nationally?
- What kind of real estate agents are they looking for?
- Are they technologically advanced and up-to-date with the latest systems?
- How do they support their agents with education and training?
- What kind of commission structure do they offer?
- Do they offer benefits?
- Do they provide their agents with leads and marketing material?
- Is there room to grow with the brokerage?

Start the application.
To apply for your Michigan real estate license with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), click here. You'll receive an email providing you with an exam candidate ID number that is required to register for the exam. License application fees are valid for one year and the following process must be completed within one year from the date fees are paid.

Pass the Michigan real estate examination.
PSI administers the Michigan real estate licensing exam. This 115 question test is comprised of two portions, covering both state and national requirements, which you will have 180 minutes to complete. For more information, see the PSI candidate exam information here.

Receive your license.
Once you have passed your exam and if you did not list an employer, your license application will remain incomplete until the Department receives an Employing Broker notification. Once the Department receives this notification your license will be issued.
